Carpenter or Wood Ants Dear Stan; How do you eliminate 'carpenter' or 'wood' ants...????? if there is such a insect... I have noticed large black ants 'working away' along the wooden ties we have surrounding our front bay window. NOW, since I have had to vacuum up a considerable amount of saw dust 'INSIDE' the house which is below this same bay window... I believe THESE PESTY ANTS are the cause ???????? Can You Help?? Or is my problem something else? Diane. Diane - Thanks for your E mail and hasten to reply... Your problem with the ants is indicative of our change of weather to higher mean temperatures. The signs of saw dust and the observation of the size and colour of the pests indicate the carpenter type ant. We have these in abundance at our cottage on Seymour Arm in B.C If the problem is not addressed, these little workaholics can literally bring down the house. No amount of spot spray or ant traps are going to distract these damaging pests. My evaluation to you .. try the new home pesticide 'Doktor Doom', and if over a period of two weeks the problem still exists, call an exterminator for the positive ID and their suggestions.
