Hi Stan:
We are currently in the process of starting
a Saskatoon Berry farm and at
present have approximately 1000 saskatoon plants started. These
plants are as follows, 200 Northline 3 years old , 150 Northline
2 yearsold , 250 Martin and 250 Thiesen planted last fall along
with approximately 150 wild plants selected from the local area.
We are currently looking to increase our crop by another 800
to 1000 plants this spring .Which variety would you suggest to
add or supplement to our existing plants .
Would appreciate any suggestions or information that you could
give us in this venture. So far all the plants seem to be doing
very well with minimum losses.
Thank you very much for your assistance and keep up the good
work on the radio program. We listen to you every Sunday and
find your program very helpful in many ways.

Russ - Thanks for your interest in the
show, and hasten to reply.
Saskatooning is the way of the future in central Alberta. New
machinery and berry packaging is almost on the market to become
available to the progressive growers.
You will likely have a U-pick, and the addition of a shorter
growth plant with ample berries would fit the pickers needs,
and cause less damage to the bush than the unreachable varieties.
Honeywood is a good hardy plant for your area. The Evans Cherry
is also a consideration for an introduction for another hardy
dependable fruit producer.
