WHEN (OR SHOULD) I FERTILIZE THE
LAWN?

What type of lawn
fertilizer should be put on at this time of year? We live
in Edmonton and I know its getting late thank you.

Mike - If your lawn performed well
for you, ie: no disease, good color and few if any weeds, I never
suggest fertilizing at any time of year.
Fertilizers in bags contain nitrogen which leach down to the
bio area of the micro life and deplete their numbers.
Your soil below the grass is able to sustain itself without interference
from above. If any thing to apply, a good soaking to sustain
the grass roots during the winter or a good over-seeding with
grass seed will do more for your lawn than a late application
of winterizer fertilizer.
Seed now, soak now. There is more nutrient value in the snowmelt
during the coming season than most commercial fertilizers.

f the compulsion to spread the winter-feed, look for 6, 8,16
or values of active ingredient similar content. Make sure the
fertilizer is listed as winterizer and slow release.
