Kiwi

Dear Stan;

On June 9 I pruned my male Kiwi plant and cut out a woody branch that I thought was dead. When I pulled the piece out I discovered that there was a somewhat smaller green branch coming off the one I cut that wasn't dead at all. I dipped the entire piece in rooting hormone and put it in water. Since then the very thin tip and small leaves on the side branch have wilted and I've pruned them off. The main woody branch I cut off still looks dead, but the larger leaves look fine. The side branch is approx 3" long by 1/8" thick with 5 leaves ranging from 2.5-3" long. The woody portion in the water is about /14-3/8" thick. Will it develop roots in water, or should I put it into soil to root?

Thanks

Karen

Karen - The important question .. is there any root system supporting something comparable to active growth from the soil? Kiwi do begin from cuttings but put into sand or perlite with consistant misting to maintain moisture to the leaves and stem thus allowing the process of rooting. Its not to late. Stan

P.S ... if the root is supporting growth , the plant will begin sending out new growth, much the same as a clematis.
