BUILDING A GREENHOUSE
Hi Stan:
We are building
a greenhouse and have poured a concrete base for it. The frame
will be heavy plastic piping and the cover will be plastic (not
glass). We will heat and vent properly and will have mist spray
available for watering etc.
Our question is as follows: What kind of plastic should we use
and where can we purchase it? Finding a plastic
useful for a greenhouse cover does seem to be a problem, unless
we go to an extremely expensive high grade.
Your show is great. Thanks Stan,
Linda
Linda - I hasten to reply, as the weather
is closing in and applying poly in less than 10 degrees C is
no fun. When you refer to the plastic covering as expensive,
there is a reason.
Greenhouse grade poly is usually heavier in mill thickness than
light industrial or domestic poly. The greenhouse variety has
been treated with an ultra violet inhibitor, which reduces the
suns damaging rays, therefore prolonging the life of the poly
by 4 or 5 years.
